What choices are there for Ways to Make Money in a Recession ?

For most, sitting at home struggling to pay the bills, any opportunity to earn a little extra money has to be at least considered and  investigated, simply because life is not as comfortable as it is desired to be.

The world is full of  “Get Rich Quick” schemes,
“How to become a Millionaire” schemes,
schemes promising to “Unlock the Secret to Unlimited Wealth”,” the Secret to developing a Millionaire Mindset”
“How to become a Property Millionaire”
“How to Make Millions Online”
“How to Make Millions trading Options or CFD’s or Futures”

And then there are the Get Rich a bit slower Schemes:

The likes of Usana- the MLM Suppliment money making business
or Nuskin the MLM Cosmetics and healthcare money making business
or Polaris Media Group the MLM Personal Development Business
and old timers Amway etc

And don’t forget of course the Internet Marketing businesses, some that have been around for years and others that are brand new to the market and are likely to be gone again in 6 months.

All promising to make you a million dollars, how to work from home with zero cost and only 15 minutes a day.

Now while there is no doubt that some do very well out of any of these methods, for over 90% of the population they are not a viable way to make money in a normal economy, let alone in a recession.

Referring back to a previous article:

There are 5 main ways to make money

• A Job- work for someone else exchange your time for money

• A business- whether a physical business or an Online Business

• Investing in Property –short term trading, long term buy and hold etc

• Investing in Shares or commodities (gold silver oil etc) –short term trading, long term buy and hold etc,

• Investing in Forex- foreign exchange, –short term trading, long term buy and hold etc

Each of these are valid methods of making money. They have risk attached to them, and rewards, that are generally in line with the risks- eg job – low risk, low reward – Forex trading –high risk high reward.

They are all valid methods of making money especially when you have the correct mindset.

Which are viable for the average employee ?

For many, the answer will be a second job, as little or no money is available to invest into a business of any sort.

However a bit of creative thinking can also turn what seems to be a “no hope” situation into a winning outcome.

Take a look around the house and think – Do I use that item, can I get money by selling that item ?

Ebay is one of the wonders of the modern world, as it provides instant access to millions of People who are looking to buy or sell things, and the items sold can be quite staggering sometimes: Used sneakers, used clothing, empty containers, unwanted brand new gifts/ winnings, vehicles, right up to houses and land, often at bargain prices.

Many make a full time living selling items on Ebay, some that they own(used sneakers !), and often things they don’t even own themselves, but sell on behalf of other companies who take care of the whole logistics of invoicing and delivery.
This is in effect “Affiliate Marketing” of physical products and can be one of the  great ways to make money in a recession with little or no cost and little or no risk. There are certainly traders that have made millions using these ideas.

As with any business,(and making money should be treated as a business) proper research must be done to determine if there is a market for the product, if there is already an oversupply of the product or of suppliers, and if the product actually solves the need for which it is intended, ie is fit for purpose.

It is also necessary to find out the rules of the game- eg some sites will not allow the sale of affiliate products- you must own them yourself, and other items are not allowed to be sold eg weapons.
It all comes down to doing a little work investigation the area you want to work.
Finding that Niche is the most critical to the likely success of making money and is essential if the intention is to become a millionaire through selling products in the niche market.
